We are a family of five, originally from the suburbs of a major city on the West coast.
We have a Dad (Farm Boy), Mom (Farm Girl... me), Farm Girl #2 (6), Farm Girl #3 (3), and Farm Baby (girl, born at the end of 2011).
Three years ago we bought a house in the rural mountain West with 1.5 acres.
After failing at keeping the 1 acre lawn watered and green the first summer, and failing at gardening the next, we spent a lot of time doing research, asking questions and learning as much as we can to make our land work for us!
So this blog is about our journey as beginner farmers trying to live off the land.
Because of where we live we have a short growing season and some things won't even grow here. It will take a lot of trial and error, experimentation and relying on advice of those who have done this before...
